“True Love’s Kiss”

okay, so the title of this blog really has nothing at all to do with what i’m about to write other than the fact that on my drive up to Seattle this morning I happily listened to the entire “Enchanted” soundtrack – even the instrumentals that play after all the songs with lyrics are done. (if you don’t already know this about me, I love Disney) It was a great drive, me belting out the lyrics of one of my new favorite Disney movies, and cruising along I-5. yes, I truly am a little kid at heart.

Anyway, this weekend has been eventful to say the least. We no longer have any working computer’s at home since mine has decided to become infected with some horrible virus and then our family computer decided that it should be sick too, leaving us with no access to the internet, no way to type out my homework or check my email. But it was kinda nice to live without computers for the weekend (okay, we did go up to my dad’s class at the high school and check email and order my sister’s birthday presents online but other than that I was without internet). I should take computer breaks more often, but of my own choosing not when the computer simply decides to die.

It was a very busy week, and let me just say that now I am officially obsessed with working the drive through at Starbucks. I’m still a rookie, I haven’t quite figured out the whole let me take an order from the person at the drive through speaker, and talk to the customer at the window, and help the barista on bar, but I’m getting there. I’ve noticed that pretty much everyone who works the drive through has their own style. They have their own opening lines, and personality – I’m working on developing my signature drive-through line but so far I haven’t come up with anything great.

This week at work was definetly better than last, although I was dead tired by the end it was a lot of fun. I’m getting to know the staff better and the regulars. For anyone that lives in Kitsap County the Mattress Ranch guy came through the drive through (you know the guy with those ridiculous commercials who does the silly dancing). My own brush with celebrity, I should have asked for his autograph, although the girls who I was working with and I decided that he probably likes to stay incognito, keep the paparazzi away, so we should just let him enjoy his coffee in peace. I’ve even come to love the Britney-Spears-handsfree mic headset. It was so fun to stand at the drive through helping customers while the snow fell on Saturday afternoon, I had some great conversations with people! :0)

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll have more to say later, but math starts in like 8 minutes and I should probably be on time.

This week is one for the record books, okay so maybe it wasn’t really that exciting but it was a big week, a busy week…

Sunday after returning from Blakely Island on Saturday afternoon, I was looking forward to a relaxing Sunday with the family.  Grab some Starbucks in the morning, do the crossword, tidy up my room, do some homework, watch a movie, and of course the weekly trip to Costco (okay, I kind of am obsessed with going to Costco, but not just any Costco – one just opened within 20 minutes of home and it is so nice and new and beautiful and they always have the best samples I always insist that we go to that Costco, even if we have errands to run that we could better accomplish by going to the old Costco).

The day started out fine and then things got a little crazy – the Thursday before my oh-so wonderful car decided to break down on I-5. So my camry, was sitting at the dealership awaiting it’s repairs with my keys, which unfortunately my Dad failed to get my house keys off the ring. Normally this isn’t a problem but because I stay at my aunt’s house Monday nights in-between my classes in Seattle on Monday and Tuesday, I have to have a house key to get in and out (she gets home after me and leaves at like 5 in the morning when I don’t even have class until 10:30). So my Mom and I search our house for an extra key to my aunt’s and after calling her and realizing she doesn’t have one I start to worry that I’m goign to have no place to stay Monday night. After my little freak out, I got in touch with Kim and Natalie who thankfully rescued me and agreed to let me sleepover.

Shout out to Kim and Natalie – THANK YOU FOR RESCUING ME! And, I had so much fun hanging out can we please plan an adventure soon? :0)

Okay, so crisis number one- although it wasn’t a really huge problem after dealing with car breaking down it didn’t help much.

Then came Wednesday, the day I had been dreading all week. It was my first full day of student teaching and that I was excited about. But, promptly at 4:30 I had to leave for work until 11pm. So, student teaching from 8am-4pm and then Starbucks 4:30pm-11pm. Student teaching went wonderfully, the kids were excited to see me and I got to help with handwriting and a few other lessons. First graders are great.

Four o’clock rolled around and I scurried out of the building towards my beloved coffee house. Once there, I was almost immeadiately asked to go stand in the back and wash dishes. And the sink was overflowing! Crumbs and sticky syrup covered everything. I began scrubbing and rinsing only to have a new load of dirty dishes dumped on top of the dishes I had just scrubbed. It was one of the LONGEST shifts I have ever worked but I survived. And I managed to safely drive home and was greeted with smiles and a fudgesicle in the freezer. Chocolate can make everything better, even if it is a Healthy Choice Fudgesicle (they are delicious!).

Thursday was more student teaching – more helping, and even some color changes (watch out!).

Today, well another full day of student teaching and then work. We even watched the Lion King as our “Fun Friday” activity this afternoon. Then off to work, luckily the staff was happy to see me and I got to try my hand at the drive through (it’s not as easy as it looks but once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad but you feel kinda ridiculous with the headset sporting the Britney Spears/NSYNC handsfree-mic combination).

I finally got my car back today, new transmission and all. In the past month we have spent more money on repairing my car then I paid when I bought it. Hopefully this car we last me for at least a few more years!

This week has been full of busy-ness but next week should be even more epic since I’m working everyday after student teaching until 10 or 11. And next week I’m officially going to begin teaching – math and art are my first subjects. Plus on top of the student teaching assignments and planning, I have homework for the four classes I’m taking. Oh joy! I’m going to be drinking a lot of coffee.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m going to make it through this quarter without pulling all-nighters every day of the week, but I know I can do it. It’ll be difficult and stressful, guaranteed but I can do it. I have a wonderful creator and Father who has blessed me with this life and all the challenges in it, and the strength to face anything that comes along.
